Students will also learn the fundamentals of long division, including solving problems with remainders, while recognizing the relationship between multiplication and division as inverse operations. Through engaging activities, games, and real-world problem-solving tasks, students will strengthen their critical thinking, improve calculation accuracy, and build confidence in working with larger numbers.

MODULE 4 – Fractions, Decimals & Percentages
At the end of Module 4: Fractions, Decimals & Percentages, students will be able to understand and apply fractions, decimals, and percentages in both mathematical and real-life situations. They will learn how to identify and compare fractions, recognize equivalent fractions, and confidently add and subtract simple fractions. What is Place Value?

Place value is one of the most important foundations in mathematics. It helps students understand that the value of a digit depends on where it is placed within a number. Even though the digits may stay the same, changing their position changes their value completely.

 

Understanding place value allows students to read, write, compare, and work with larger numbers confidently. This concept is essential for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, and many future math skills.

For example, in the number:

Each digit has a specific value based on its position:

  • 4 is in the thousands place, so its value is 4,000
  • 5 is in the hundreds place, so its value is 500
  • 8 is in the tens place, so its value is 80
  • 2 is in the ones place, so its value is 2

This means the number

4582

can also be written as:

4,000 + 500 + 80 + 2

This is called expanded form.

 

 

Why Place Value Matters

Place value helps students:

  • 9 = 9,000
